Privacy policy

Last reviewed: 6 August 2026

This policy explains what obs-studio.net collects, why, how long it is kept, and the controls available to you. It applies to https://obs-studio.net and related first-party tools on this domain.

Who we are

OBS-Studio.net operates this independent educational website. Contact for privacy questions: use the contact form. We do not publish a public mailbox on page footers.

What we collect

  • Account data — email, display name, password hash, avatar (if uploaded), notification preferences, and session metadata when you register.
  • Usage analytics — page paths, referrers, device category, search queries (not passwords or stream keys), outbound click targets, and basic timing. IP addresses are hashed before storage where retained.
  • Security logs — login attempts, rate-limit keys, and audit events needed to protect accounts.
  • Contact messages — name, email, subject, and message body you submit.
  • Cookies — a session cookie for signed-in users, optional remember-me token, first-party analytics session id, and an analytics opt-out cookie if you choose it.

What we do not collect

We do not ask for OBS stream keys, authentication tokens, private log files for permanent storage without consent, payment card numbers, or government IDs. Diagnostic log analysis (when available) redacts sensitive fields and defaults to ephemeral processing.

Why we process data

  • Provide accounts, security, and site features you request
  • Improve guides and search using aggregated, privacy-conscious analytics
  • Respond to contact and copyright requests
  • Prevent abuse (rate limits, fraud, spam)

Legal bases

Where applicable law requires a basis: contract (account features), legitimate interests (security, product improvement with opt-out), and consent (optional newsletter confirmation, non-essential cookies where required).

Retention

  • Accounts — until you delete the account or it is closed for policy reasons
  • Analytics events — aggregated daily totals retained longer; raw events pruned on a rolling window configured by operators
  • Contact messages — until resolved and a reasonable archive period ends
  • Mail queue — until delivered or failed and cleaned by maintenance jobs

Sharing

We do not sell personal information. Limited sharing may occur with infrastructure providers (hosting, email delivery) under processing agreements, or when required by law. Network advertising, when enabled, may load third-party ad scripts subject to their own policies; you can use browser controls and our analytics opt-out for first-party measurement.

Your controls

  • Update profile and notification preferences while signed in
  • Export account data from your dashboard
  • Delete your account (soft-delete with credential confirmation)
  • Opt out of first-party analytics via the footer control or cookie
  • Request correction or deletion of contact submissions via the contact form

Children

This site is directed at adults configuring streaming software. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13 (or the minimum age in your jurisdiction).

International transfers

Servers may be located in the United States or other regions. By using the site you understand data may be processed where our hosting operates, with safeguards appropriate to the provider.

Changes

Material updates will be reflected on this page with a revised review date. Continued use after changes constitutes acceptance where permitted by law.
